Building firm comes to town

Wildgoose Construction, currently based in Ashover, is expanding thanks to a projected 60 per cent increase in turnover and is set to create ten new jobs, taking the number of staff to 72.

The increase in employees comes as Wildgoose projects a turnover of £40 million by the end of September 2014, compared to £25 million at the same time last year. Tim Walker, managing director, said: “We are currently experiencing a high volume of work on site and our forward order book is very healthy, resulting in us increasing the number of construction teams from four to five.

“This meant recruiting three new site managers, a new contracts manager, a design and build manager, two estimators, a buyer and a site engineer. We have also taken on a management trainee and are also looking to recruit further additions to our team once the move to Alfreton has taken place.

“This is great news for Wildgoose and testament to the dedication of our staff, who have worked tirelessly to secure orders through adopting a positive and proactive approach and providing our clients with innovative ideas and cost-effective solutions.”

Mr Walker said that with the increase in workload and additional staff numbers, the move to larger, more suitable premises was a priority for the company.

It is expected that staff will move into Horsefair House, in King Street, Alfreton, before Easter when the refurbishment of the former tax offices is complete. Wildgoose recently won contracts in the education sector worth almost £7m including a two-storey classroom block at George Spencer Academy in Stapleford. The firm was founded in Matlock in 1896.
