DERBYSHIRE: MPs bring region’s food and drink to Parliament

Leading companies such as Thorntons, Chatsworth and S&A Foods will be displaying their wares alongside independent local producers such as Janjo’s of Erewash and Scropton Cider of South Derbyshire on April 16.

Derbyshire MPs, of both parties, have invited representatives of the county’s diverse food and drinks sector to an all-day event. It will give the producers the opportunity to show Parliamentarians at every level what Derbyshire has to offer, not only to its consumers but also to the local economy.

The aim of the fair, organised by Heather Wheeler MP for South Derbyshire and Nigel Mills MP for Amber Valley, and supported by the other Derbyshire MPs, is to raise awareness of our county’s food and drink among key decision-makers and to highlight the importance of buying local produce.

Nigel Mills MP said: “This fair offers our local producers a great chance to show members of both Houses, from across the United Kingdom, the great food and drink that we have on offer.”

Derbyshire County Council, which organises an annual Derbyshire Food and Drink fair – this year’s will be at

Elvaston Castle on the weekend of May 18 and 19 – are working with the county’s MPs to make sure that Parliament gets to see the products that are proudly made in Derbyshire.

The region’s tourist board and Visit England group will also be there to highlight the sites and attractions that make our county a fantastic place to visit and stay.

MP Heather Wheeler said: “Like other Derbyshire MPs I am proud of our local produce and hope showing it off in Parliament will help our companies flourish.”

The Parliamentarian food and drinks fair will be held in the historic setting of the Palace of Westminster and provides Derbyshire with an excellent opportunity to showcase our talents to some very different consumers.
