Derbyshire landmark will be lit up on NSPCC Walk for Children night

Walk for Children is a Christmas campaign in aid of the NSPCC and its Childline service.

People are encouraged to recruit family, friends and colleagues and plan a 5km fundraising walk on December 21, which is the longest night of the year.

In support of the campaign, Mercia Marina in Willington, Derbyshire, will be lit up that night as will other landmarks across the country.

Tony Preston, sales and marketing manager for Mercia Marina, said: “As much it is a wonderful time of year, for some children it can be the most difficult. Being a parent myself and imagining children sad, in distress or worse is truly heart-breaking and I realise how important the NSPCC is in protecting children and am so grateful to them, as all of society should be.

“Supporting the NCPCC will make a difference that counts. The lights are great and a welcome sight at the marina for all. We are very proud to again be supporting NSPCC's ‘Walk for Children’ Christmas campaign.”

Barbara Elsey, NSPCC community fundraising manager for Derbyshire, said: “We’re extremely grateful for the support given by Mercia Marina to help raise awareness of the NSPCC’s Walk for Children campaign. The NSPCC relies on public donations for the majority of its income, which is why we’re calling on people in Derby and Derbyshire to support the NSPCC and Childline this festive season.

“By joining our Walk for Children, every step participants take and every pound that they raise will help Childline be here for all children, even on the darkest night of the year. Together let’s make a difference.”
