A Chesterfield woman ended up in court for threatening to burst her partner’s new hot tub in a domestic row they were having where he was goading her after a drinking session.

Emma Murphy was standing outside the flat they lived in while her partner motioned to all the possessions inside the property that were his prior to the incident on August 8 in Oakamore Close in the town, Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court was told on Thursday, October 29.

Prosecuting, Katie Hamill told the court: “Police received a call saying that the couple had a domestic argument and she was walking around with a knife in her hand.

“He left her in town and she came back, saying ‘I’m going to burst your jacuzzi’ and when police attended she told them it was for the hot tub.

“He told them that he did goad her, shouting, ‘Go on then, stab it’. She said she was angry, upset and frustrated, and that she’d had a lot to drink. They’d had an argument and that’s when she threatened to stab it with the knife.

“She said he was walking around the flat, stating what was his inside the property, and that made her angry.”

Murphy, aged 28, admitted threatening to damage property when she appeared before the court.

Mitigating, Denny Lau said: “It’s quite clear that they’d had an argument and the complainant was walking around the house trying to annoy her.”

Magistrates fined her £162 and ordered her to pay £85 costs and a £34 victim surcharge.
