Derbyshire teenager with learning difficulties hurled abuse at disabled man while he waited for his wife

Poppy Briddon was standing on the street with two males when the incident happened in the Alfreton area on April 21 this year, Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court was told on Wednesday, October 14.
Prosecuting, Katherine Wiggan told the court: “The complainant went with his wife to the pharmacy and he saw a group, including the defendant, shouting and swearing.

Hide Ad“His wife went into the pharmacy and he heard the group shouting f*** you and f*** your wife and what are you f****** looking at.
“Gestures were made and a cutting motion was made, like she had something in her hand. They were then confronted by the group standing in front of the vehicle and there was further abuse as they drove away.The complainant has a disability and was parked in a disabled bay at the time.”
Briddon, 19, of Brook Avenue, Alfreton, admitted using threatening behaviour when she appeared before the court.
Mitigating, Lindsey Wadkinson said: “She’d had a couple of drinks and she was with two males who are a few years older than her and a bad influence. She is classed to be at risk because of her learning difficulties and the people she was hanging around with, but she is no longer hanging around with the two other people involved.”

Hide AdBriddon was given an 18-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £22 victim surcharge.
