Derbyshire Constabulary said there had been several recent incidents where takeaways in the town had delivered food to an address and not received payment.
On each occasion reported to police, it is said that the delivery driver has been greeted by a person outside who has taken possession of food and walked away stating they were going to fetch some money.
However, the person has not returned to pay for the food.
