Inquest opens into death of father

An inquest has been opened after a father was found dead on New Year’s Day.

Shaun Kerry, 51, of Brooke Avenue, Alfreton, is believed to have hanged himself in his bedroom.

PC Joe Lovelock, of Derbyshire police, told the hearing at Chesterfield coroners’ court this afternoon: “At 10.04am on January 1 we were contacted by Mr Kerry’s son who said he couldn’t get hold of his father.

“We forced entry into Mr Kerry’s house and he was found dead in his bedroom.

“It appears he hanged himself.”

PC Lovelock told the court that Mr Kerry had recently separated from his wife.

He said there were not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr Kerry’s death.

Coroner Nigel Anderson adjourned the inquest to a later date.
