Man reunited with his beloved parrot after dramatic rescue
Jake Metcalfe, aged 22, was left devastated after the blue and gold macaw, named Cocoa, managed to fly out the door into his neighbour’s garden on Tuesday morning.
Heartbroken Jake, who has autism, even slept outside under the tree to make sure that his parrot came to no harm.

“The man (David Williams) is a hero,” Jake said. “The tree is about 100ft tall.”
“It is like Christmas, better than Christmas, in fact.
“I have been through so many emotions.
“Cocoa means a lot to me. He is like my second son.
“If I would not have got him back I don’t know what I would have done. I don’t want to think about it.”
Jake, who lives with his partner Danielle, also aged 22, says he sought the help of the RSPCA but the charity could not help him.

The charity then contacted Peak FM who put out an appeal, which was heard by landscape gardener, Mr Williams.
Mr Williams, who brought along a set of special ladders, managed to bring the bird to safety after climbing the tall tree.
“I have been sleeping outside so I could stay with Cocoa,” Jake said.

“I would like to stay thank you to everybody who helped me. It was a real group effort.
“To stop what they were doing and put in so much effort to get my parrot is something I will never forget.”
Jake says he now wants to join Problem Parrots to help others.
He added: “The parrot is absolutely smashing. Some of his feathers are missing but they will grow back.”
