Matlock in Bloom lays down the gauntlet

Members of Matlock in Bloom have laid down the green-fingered gauntlet to allotment owners in town after stumbling across a “superb” example this week.

Every month, Matlock in Bloom reward high standards in the town following public nominations.

But after being “blown away” on a visit to John Riley’s allotment, members are now urging the public to nominate voluptuous veggie patches across Matlock.

Paddy Petch, of Matlock in Bloom, said: “John has a vast range of edible and ornamental plants and they all seem to thrive under his skilful touch. But you, or someone you know, may rival this.

“If so, you stand the chance of winning an award for excellence, and gardening vouchers kindly sponsored by Scotland Nurseries.”

To nominate an allotment, or anything else that improves standards in Matlock, email [email protected].

Other winners this month include George Smallwood for his care of a roadside space, Peter and Joyce Davey for their garden design, and Sheila Watt for her back garden.
