Lorraine Turner of Martindale Close, Staveley, Chesterfield has spectacularly raised £1927 for the East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS trust by shaving her head.

Originally, Lorraine planned to raise £1000 but was blown away from the reaction of her local community who got behind the initiative to make sure she sailed well clear of her fundraising target.

Lorraine will continue to raise funds up until May 6th and has a revised total of £2000 set in her sights, which she is confident of reaching following the initial level of generosity displayed by her local community.

Speaking to Derbyshire Times, Lorraine said: “I set the funding page up on Facebook and started uploading pictures to accommodate my fundraising message. Once the page was set up, I started posting how I felt about the NHS and made it very clear how I wanted to help them.

“One of my quotes was, ‘I can live without a little bit of hair, I can sacrifice that because the NHS are sacrificing themselves on a daily basis.’ From that point on, people just kept donating which I thought was incredibly surprising.

“I think one really important thing to highlight around all this, is the amazing response from communities across the country. Everyone just wants to help and support the NHS anyway they can. The reaction from my community has really melted my heart.

Alice Rachel, Lorraine’s next door neighbour, helped where possible and was in charge of filming the video and fielding any messages of support sent in to Lorraine.

Alice said: “I’m Privileged to be a small part of it (behind the camera trying to keep up with all the amazing supportive messages). What an amazing couple, it’s the bravery of people like Lorraine who are getting us through.

“I’ve ended up donating twice because Lorraine’s efforts are so inspirational. Thank you Lorraine for being so brave and bold/bald (no pun intended). You are the best of us.”
