Have you heard 13-year-old Gabby’s incredible new Christmas song?

Instead, a brand new Christmas song, written and recorded by one of their own - 13-year-old Gabby - is likely to be streaming on repeat.

‘Christmas Lights’ is an uplifting song, filled with hope, and celebrating the countdown to the festive season, after a long and difficult 2020.

“It really is beautiful, all parental bias aside,” confirms Gabby’s dad James.

“I have four daughters, so I’ve spent many years pretending to be amazed by every drawing and piece of artwork that crosses my desk, but when she sat down with her guitar and played me this song, I was utterly blown away.”

Gabby, who James reveals has always been musical, only taught herself how to play guitar this year whilst in lockdown. Shortly after that, she began experimenting with writing music and lyrics.

“She’s a fantastic singer, and we were really impressed when she knuckled down to teach herself guitar in lockdown,” says James.

“After hearing the song she’d written, I knew we had to get it recorded.”

James, a musician himself with Chesterfield band, The Seventy, reached out to producer Jim Pinder at Treehouse Studio in Cutthorpe.

It took just half a day for Gabby, a student at St Mary’s Catholic High School, to lay down the track and vocals for her song, which is now due to be released on all major streaming sites on Christmas Day.

Gabby’s music video has already been viewed nearly 2,000 times on YouTube, in just a few days, and the song has been played on a number of local radio stations.

“Gabby would love to eventually make a living doing what she loves - making music,” says James, who lives with the family in Glapwell.

“Her song has been played on S41 Radio, Chesterfield Radio, and Spire Radio - where it is on daily rotation as part of their A-list over the festive period.

“And it’s so nice, after 25 years of listening to Wham, to have something different to play in our home - especially something so beautiful, and by one of the family.

“I’ve no doubt it’s one we’re going to be wheeling out year after year.”
