Police comment on how things went in Chesterfield as lockdown restrictions eased

Non-essential shops and outdoor hospitality finally reopened on Monday after months of closure to curb the spread of the deadly disease.

Inspector Nick Booth, of Derbyshire Constabulary, told the Derbyshire Times: “Pubs, bars and restaurants that opened in Chesterfield on Monday were very busy but almost entirely trouble free.

“Officers from our safer neighbourhood and licensing teams visited prior to opening to make sure all businesses were aware of the restrictions and, while there were pro-active patrols throughout the evening, officers only had to speak to a handful of people due to a lack of social distancing.

“The reopening of pubs and eateries is a fantastic step for our local businesses and I would urge everyone to ensure that they are able to continue trading by following the rules.”
