The competition involves answering 25 multiple choice questions in one hour and is sat in school under normal exam conditions.

Laura Parrett, maths teacher at the Pease Hill school, said: “This is the first time we have entered this competition and we were very pleased that 22 of our students chose to enter. The challenge sees only 40 per cent of the national participants achieve an award.

“However, the students at Mill Hill performed outstandingly, with 46 per cent of our entrants receiving an award.

“It’s definitely something we would like to do again,” she added.
