Police are appealing for a number of Good Samaritans to come forward after a man was assaulted by a group of youths in Ilkeston.

The 20-year-old victim was walking along Queen’s Drive when he passed a large group of young boys and girls, possibly up to about 50 in number.

A spokesman for Derbyshire police said: “A small pocket of the group then assaulted him by kicking and punching him and trying to take his mobile phone.

“But other members of the group intervened and we want to speak to those people.

“We are also examining CCTV footage to identify members of the group but want to hear from the Good Samaritans as soon as possible.”
