Duffield CC too strong for Alfreton CC in Division One

Duffield comfortably beat Alfreton CC by 114 runs after an impressive display in their Division One match.

They got off to a shaky start and were reduced to just 41-3 after Chris Sheldon (0), Philip Jordan (17) and Paul Bakel (15) all got out cheaply.

But Duffield recovered well with Peter Jenkins and Thomas Roe putting on a 117 run partnership for the fourth wicket before Jenkins was dismissed for 48 off the bowling of Tom Bexton.

Roe went on to make 73 off just 76 balls before Bexton claimed his latest wicket.

Ben Patterson added a quickfire 39 off 24 balls at the end of the innings as Duffield closed on 239 all out.

Alfreton were never really in the hunt with extras topscoring with 32 runs. Gordon Waterfall (31), Jake Simpson (23) and Elliot Savide (10) the only players to make double figures.

The win gave Duffied 27 points, while Alfreton collected six.

Elsewhere, Belper Meadows rushed Clowne II by 217 runs.

Belper batted first and amassed 240 for 3 off their allotted 46 overs with skipper Chris Whiteley hitting a patient 119.

He had good support from Joe Slater (58) and George Hudson (41 not out).

Clowne had no answer to to the Meadows’ fast bowlers, who skittled the visitors out for just 23 runs.

Dan Kelly finishing with 6 for 12 and Matt Jones with 4 for 9.
