The 38-year-old signed a new contract with the Cumbrians last October after interest from a number of clubs.

Barrow were promoted to the Football League for the first time in 48 years and they won plaudits for their attacking style of play despite having one of the smallest budgets in the division.

Bolton were relegated from League One this season and boss Keith Hill will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June.

Pymouth Arygle manager Ryan Lowe is another name to be linked with the vacancy.
