Clay Cross Town win after Phoenix FC concede match while 5-1 down

Clay Cross Town's healthy start to the season looked to be continuing on Saturday at Phoenix FC until the game was bizarrely abandoned.

Within 20 minutes the Millers had stormed to a 3-0 lead with goals from Ant Lynam, Tomas Poole and Joel Holland.

That lead was reduced though by Mark West on the half hour when he fired well past Charlie Clayton.

Clay Cross responded with two further goals from Lynam and Poole to take them into the break leading 5-1.

It was at that stage that an ankle sprain injury occurred to home defender Liam O’Brien and although off the field play was still in a position to hold up proceedings.

The game was delayed for 40 minutes and upon the referee announcing that play would restart the Phoenix manager conceded the game to everyone’s bewilderment.

This Saturday the Millers travel to Harworth Colliery FC kick off 3pm.
