“I got a call off the gaffer when he got the job and I’m delighted to be here,” Doyle, who had been linked with a move to rivals Mansfield, said.

’The gaffer played a big part in me deciding to come to Bolton. I obviously played with him at Chesterfield and I kept an eye on how he was doing at Barrow – he did an unbelievable job there and far exceeded the expectations. I’m excited to work for him.

“The style his teams play is good for me personally and I cannot wait to get going.”

Evatt led Barrow to the National League title before leaving to join Wanderers, who will be playing in the same division as his former club after being relegated from League One.

“Eoin is a statement of intent by the club and is a player I know very well,” Evatt said.

“He has many qualities both as a player and as a person, and we are looking forward to getting started.”
