The 55-year-old came in as caretaker manager in January and saved the club from relegation from the National League last season.

The Blues have won one and lost two so far this campaign and although Pembrton says they are ‘building’ for the future, he understands that he needs to get results as well.

“We were near the bottom of the league and five points adrift when I came in,” he said. “In the space of about 15 games, we have got a better balance to our squad so we are improving but it is not something that we can improve overnight – it is small steps.

“The other part is we are now blooding some youngsters which were not involved so we are adding a little bit of value to our squad and trying to build for the future and all the time we are looking to improve.

“I think we are in a better position than what we were six or seven months ago, but it is still working progress. I have still got a lot of work to do, I understand that responsibility but we are trying hard to move forward as a club.

“Everybody needs patience but we are not going to get patience if we are not winning football matches so I have got to gear all that up and work that in. Blooding young players is all well and good but we can’t blood young players if it is costing us football matches so it is getting the balance right.”

Town have been in a position to pick up positive results in their three fixtures so far and Pemberton thinks they could easily have more points on the board.

He added: “We are getting more games under our belt and the more games that we get the better we will be. Certainly the players will become match fit. The players are fit but there is a difference when it is match fit. I know we will get better the longer we go on. I think we could quite easily be sat here with five points instead of three.“
