Grant Smith has to react at the last minute as Young’s inswinging cross bounces just in front of him. Good reactions to tip it over the bar.

Taylor hits the bar and then Kerr’s shot is blocked on the line. Town should be ahead now. They are really pushing here.

Drills in a free-kick from wide on the right, it is begging to be touched in but it evades everyone. Great ball. 0-0.

Mitchell gets on the end of a cross from Maguire from the left but he glances it wide. Chesterfield’s main threat is coming down that left flank.

Maguire almost gets on the end of Taylor’s great cross from the left.

Clarke burts forward and slips in Mitchell whose first-time shot is well-driven but Lainton is right behind it. Good start from Town.

HT thoughts from fan writer ben

We’ve reached half time then and it remains Wrexham 0-0 Chesterfield. That’s probably a fair scoreline at this stage, with both sides largely matching each other throughout the first forty-five. It certainly wasn’t a bad half from a Spireites perspective though, and they probably had the game’s best chance, with Danny Rowe playing a lovely ball through for Kairo Mitchell, who’s effort was well matched by Wrexham ‘keeper Rob Lainton. In fact, if there was any frustration to be taken from that first-half from a Chesterfield perspective, it would be that there has been a few potential openings which have closed up before Town have been able to take advantage. That said, it’s good to see The Spireites starting to craft such opportunities, and if they can keep a good footing in the game and keep applying the pressure, there’s every chance James Rowe’s men will be able to break through and nick the three points here. Overall, a decent first forty-five from Chesterfield there, and with a bit of fine tuning, they’re in a good position to push on and secure a vital victory this afternoon. An interesting second half to come.

HT: Wrexham 0 v 0 Chesterfield

The Spireites have edged this one and had the best chance of the game but Mitchell was denied by Lainton.
