Christian Goodman believes the Chesterfield Road club can make the most of an increase in floating golfers to promote the club and sport in general.

Golf resumed play at the club for members only on 15th May following an easing of lockdown restrictions.

And, with team sports unlikely to resume any time soon, Goodman says clubs now have a great opportunity to showcase what they have to offer.

“Interest in playing has been high, the phone has been red hot with people wanting to play and visitors wanting to book in,” he said.

“Like a lot of clubs, golf here will be for members only for the next couple of months, they have supported us during lockdown and will be getting priority.

“Golf is a great exercise and is good for the mind. We have had an influx of golfers since reopening.

“A lot of clubs are for members only so visitors can’t get on at many places.

“We have had numerous inquiries about membership. I think members golf clubs have a really good opportunity here to enhance themselves and capture the nomadic golfers.”

As part of the easing in restrictions bookings must made online, with ten minute intervals separating tee times for two-ball pairs.

A one way system in the car park and on and off the course, while the clubhouse remains closed.

And Christan admits, it is great to be back.

“It is very exciting to be back open, it has been a long seven weeks since we closed,” he said.

“It is a safe environment as long as social distancing is maintained.

“We have been given strict guidelines to abide by.

“We did some maintenance on the course when it was shut but we have not been able to do the full maintenance.

“We would normally cut the tee three times a week, but we have been doing it once a week.

“Furloughed staff were brought back on Monday, so the week was all go, go, go - it is looking nice out there.”
